SELINSGROVE — One man was arrested and another suspect remains at large after state police foiled a bold plan to use a stolen pickup truck to rip an automated teller machine from the exterior wall of a Snyder County bank.
State troopers from Selinsgrove responded to an alarm at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday at Northumberland National Bank, 87 Lori Lane, Monroe Township.
Troopers arrived to see an ATM had been torn from the building and Jorge Hernandez Vasquez, 26, and an unidentified person fleeing on foot.
Troopers said the suspects had used chains and hooks connected to the truck to yank the ATM from the building.
After resisting arrest, Vasquez was shot four times with a taser gun and apprehended.
Troopers on Wednesday night were unable to provide a home address for Vasquez.
It was later discovered that the pickup, a 2000 Ford F-150, was stolen from Michael L. Deivert, of 857 N. Seventh St., Sunbury.
Deivert said he had parked the vehicle earlier in the evening and did not know it was stolen until contacted by state troopers. Keys were inside the unlocked truck.
Damage to the ATM is estimated at $30,000. No money was taken from the machine.
Vasquez was charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. He was arraigned by District Justice Willis Savidge and placed in Snyder County Jail on $150,000 bail.
The investigating state trooper was unavailable for further comment Wednesday afternoon.
Anyone with information on the second suspect is asked to contact state police at 374-8145.

Trucking firm to add 25 drivers
MILTON -- The president of Watsontown Trucking Co. said Tuesday that his firm will be hiring 25 truck drivers in addition to several diesel technician and management positions, all due to expansion. President Steve Patton said the company, which has been in the Milton Industrial Park since 2004, bought 14 additional acres in the park, adding 10,000 square feet of office space and maintenance facilities. Construction on the new space, he said, will begin shortly and is targeted to be completed by June.
