Victim of 3-car crash dies

DANVILLE — A 21-year-old Freeburg woman died Saturday from injuries she suffered in a car crash barely 24 hours earlier.

Brittany E. Eshenaur died at 5:02 p.m. Saturday at Geisinger Medical Center, according to a nursing supervisor.

She had been flown to the medical center after her car was hit from behind and catapulted into the path of an oncoming vehicle in a Washington Township, Snyder County, accident.

According to state police in Selinsgrove, Eshenaur was stopped in the southbound lane of Route 35 east of Freeburg, waiting to turn left at 5:39 p.m. Friday. Her 1999 Ford Contour was struck from behind by a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina driven by Jeffrey Leitzel, of Richfield. The impact forced Eshenaur’s car into the northbound lane, where it was struck by a 2004 Jeep Liberty driven by Gary Carstettler, of Freeburg.

Carstetter suffered moderate injuries. His passenger, Boneta C. Carstetter, 48, was uninjured. The crash is under investigation. Leitzel also suffered a moderate injury, police said.
