Mayor breaks tie, says no to project

By Karen Blackledge

DANVILLE — Mayor Ed Coleman was forced to break a 3-3 tie on a motion to allocate $36,000 in 2010 Montour County Community Development Block Grand funds to the Danville Senior Citizens Center.

Coleman voted no, resulting in the motion failing.

Council members Collins Stump and Bill Hause and President Dick Blosky opposed the motion, and members Betty Ann Moyer and Bob Cope and Vice President Bill Rogers voted in favor of it. Members Dale Hollenbach and Scott Keppler were absent.

The project, for which the borough would have had to pay 28 percent of the cost, would have been for handicapped entrances and new doors for the senior center, which the borough leases to the Columbia-Montour Aging Office.

“The building is costing the borough. We don’t get enough money to operate the building,” Hause said. He said the handicapped accessible work should be done, however.

He said people from outside Danville use the center. “We’re costing borough residents to do this,” he said.

The borough would have had to take the money out of its general account since Danville’s block grant funds are committed for next year.
