Selinsgrove fire destroys 5 autos

Tenants evacuated in suspicious blaze


SELINSGROVE -- Five vehicles and a shed were destroyed Tuesday night when a fire reported to be of suspicious origin broke out at 4 Sand Hill Road, Selinsgrove.

The shed fire threatened a six-unit apartment complex about 15 feet away.

Twenty firefighters, from Selinsgrove, Hummels Wharf and Freeburg, responded to the blaze that was reported at 10:26 p.m.

Dwayne Betzer, chief of the Selinsgrove fire department, said he did not know the cause of the blaze that consumed two minivans, a Ford Taurus, a Ford Ranger and a Chevrolet Chevelle.

Betzer said the apartment tenants were evacuated and that the cause of the fire is suspicious.
