MIDDLEBURG – A 45-year-old Middleburg man has been charged with hit-and-run and other offenses related to a crash in Penns Creek Thursday night involving a horse and buggy.
State police at Selinsgrove charged James Leitzel with six counts of accidents involving personal injury, speeding, careless driving and failing to notify police or render aid at the scene of a crash.
Leitzel was arraigned before Middleburg District Judge Willis Savidge and sent to Snyder County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Police allege Leitzel struck the buggy on Route 104 in Penns Creek about 8 p.m. Thursday.
The buggy's driver, Delores Horning, 40, of Middleburg, and her five children were thrown from the buggy.
Her 5-year-old was transported to Geisinger Medical Center, near Danville, by helicopter. That child has since returned home.
