Comedian Henny Youngman once said, "I once wanted to become an atheist, but I gave up — they have no holidays."
Here's a list of a few upcoming events, some holiday related, some not.
1. Late night shoppers will get a chance to hit the stores in downtown Selinsgrove until 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Many stores and restaurants will be open late to allow extra time to find that something special for that special someone.
But there's more than just shopping. Folks are invited to enjoy hot cider and roasted chestnuts on the commons at Market and Pine streets. Plus individual businesses will feature live entertainment and chats with local artists and crafters throughout the night.
There also will be horse-drawn carriage rides around downtown.
2. The Danville Area School District board of directors meets to reorganize Wednesday at Columbia-Montour Area Vocational-Technical School, 5050 Sweppenheiser Drive, Bloomsburg.
The actual meeting begins at 7 p.m. after tours of the facility and dinner prepared by the culinary arts students.
Traditionally, Danville meets in the school library.
3. Peeling church bells and a trumpet fanfare will launch the 23rd annual Christkindl Market in Mifflinburg at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Opening the yearly authentic German outdoor Christmas market will be St. Nicholas on a white horse, leading a procession through market.
Events run Thursday through Saturday.
