Mahoning Township fire ruled arson

DANVILLE - A state police fire marshal has ruled a fire that destroyed a two-story condemned frame house as arson.

Tpr. Norman Fedder, in a news release today, said the fire originated on the outside southeast corner of the structure at 110 Lower St. at about 8:10 p.m. Wednesday in Mahoning Township.

He said there were no utilities being supplied to the structure at the time of the fire. Entrances were either boarded up or locked.

The fire spread up the outside and into the attic area through eaves.

Fedder estimated the damage at $28,000. The property is owned by John Wesley Pickin, 51, of 1804 Old Bloom Road, according to Fedder. The owner did not have insurance on the building.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Mahoning Township police at 275-5611.
