STREET TALK: Carney and the GOP

The National Republican Congressional Committee will be airing a television ad directed at the 10th Congressional District race, but mainly at incumbent Democrat Chris Carney.

The ad states “Is Chris Carney’s political career on life support?” and questions Carney’s voting record in Congress

The ad claims that Carney has said he is bi-partisan, but he has voted with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi 91 percent of the time and that he supported President Obama’s “health care takeover.” The ad says “only 37 percent of Pennsylvanians” support Obama’s plan.

The ad tries to persuade Carney to “stop voting with Obama.”

Josh Drobnyk, spokesman for Carney’s campaign, said Carney is the most “fiscally conservative” congressman in the Pennsylvania delegation.

“One minute Congressman Carney is being actively recruited to switch parties by Republican leaders, including the head of the National Republican Congressional Committee,” Drobnyk said.

“The next minute he’s being attacked by the same folks for being too liberal.”
