MILTON — By week’s end, one of 10 girls will be named the Milton Harvest Festival Princess. We asked each girl where she would take a visitor in Milton, and why. Their responses:
Katherine Alvirena: If a visitor came to Milton, I would show them the side that I most love about Milton. That side would be the scenery. I would take them for a walk around Brown Avenue and the Milton bridge so they could see the beauty of the Susquehanna River and the gorgeous trees. For lunch, I’d take them to my favorite spot, which is Lisa’s Milltown Deli. It’s delicious and comfortable.
Brittany Bridge: If I were to show a visitor around Milton, I would first take them around our historical tour we have located downtown to educate them on its existence and how the town came to be. While doing this, I have the opportunity to show them the various murals on our buildings (which also display our history) and offer them lunch at the Milltown Deli. Then, as a high school representative, I would show them our high school, where I proudly and actively spend my weekdays. As a conclusion, I would take this visitor to Brown Avenue Park, where not only students, but many residents, go to enjoy time with their children, family and friends.
Miriam Cash: If I showed a visitor around Milton, I would take him or her downtown. The murals and walking tour downtown show the sense of pride that we have in our community and heritage.
Devin Dreese: If I showed a visitor around Milton, I would take them downtown. There I would show them the new murals. This is a new beginning for Milton, and also connects the past. It shows what Milton was and can be in the future. This is where I would take a visitor in Milton.
Diana Hettinger: If I showed a visitor around Milton, I would take him/her to Subway to get take-out and then to a picnic in the pavilion where they hold Music in the Park, so we could enjoy people watching and relaxation.
Billie Jo Keiser: If I showed a visitor around Milton, I would take them to the Chef Boy-Ar-Dee factory because the factory is what most people know Milton for. It has been around for such a long time, that it means and shows a lot about Milton and their good “taste.” I would also show them all of the new, beautiful murals painted on the buildings downtown. These painting also show what Milton’s history has to hold.
Taylor Kling: If a visitor came to Milton I would take them on the Historic Downtown Walking Tour. I would do this because it would be a great way to share not only Milton’s history, but also show them the growth I’ve seen happening in our community.
Amy Knapp: Milton is a small town and does not have a Wal-Mart, strip mall or a movie theater. But Milton is full of history and good, hard-working people. If someone approached me and asked for a tour of the town, I would take them to the new historical placards placed around town, telling the history of Milton, and the recently painted murals to show them my home and how wonderful it is and why I love it.
Jenna Paul: If I could take a visitor around Milton I would take them to the high school so I could show them our panther pride, what a great faculty we have teaching the students and the resources we have available to us at Milton.
Nicole Schnure: If I were to take a visitor around Milton, I would probably take them around on the walking tour. It is full of many interesting historical facts, and also some amazing stories about Milon’s past. Not many residents in Milton have actually walked around and read many of the facts, but they would be interesting for anyone to read. I would make sure that the visitor was able to see the new murals that have been painted on some of the buildings throughout Milton because they also represent Milton’s past.
