NORTHUMBERLAND — Tim Fink, Northumberland’s police chief for nearly a decade, will become a patrolman for Point Township on March 18.
Township supervisors approved his hiring by a 5-0 vote Thursday night.
“It is my job to get this department back as a whole,” Point Township Police Chief Josh Van Kirk told supervisors Thursday night. “On the top of my list of candidates second to none is integrity and I can’t tell you how excited I am that Tim Fink is with us.”
Fink, Northumberland’s chief since 2004, will leave the borough force because he said he wants to work in a new environment.
“Nothing happened or anything like that,” he said. “I wanted a change and I wanted to go back to being a patrolman.”
Fink, Van Kirk noted, has nearly two decades of law enforcement experience.
“This is a guy who has 17 years of service,” he said. “He cares about people and brings his extensive training to the table.”
Fink sat in the audience as Point Township Supervisors Chairman Randy Yoxheimer asked the board to vote by a raise of hands.
After he was hired, Fink was greeted with a round of applause.
“When you hire anyone, you hope to get someone who can and will fill the needs you are looking for,” Supervisor Montie Peters said. “I know how happy I am that Tim Fink is with us. We know the man, the father, the individual and the police officer and I am thrilled he is here.”
Fink was hired as a Patrolman 5 — the highest level a police officer can attain.
Fink has not yet resigned from Northumberland, but is expected to begin his duties with Point Township on March 18.
