PILLOW — Three people were left temporarily homeless after a late Tuesday afternoon fire destroyed the living room of their mobile home and smoke and water damage made the rest of the dwelling unlivable.
The fire broke out about 5:15 p.m. at 1228 Raupstal Road in Jordan Township, southern Northumberland County. The home is owned by Mark Stone, according to Pillow Fire Company Chief Rodney Romberger.
The blaze was reported as a working structure fire centered on one room. The names of the homeless were not available.
Flames were contained to one section of the modular home, Romberger said. “We did have to open the ceiling to extinguish the fire,” he added.
He said the cause of the blaze is being investigated, “but I don’t think it’s suspicious,” he said.
Members of the Herndon Fire Company also responded to the call.
“By the time we got there, the fire was pretty well put out,” said Lt. Curtis Martz, of the Herndon company.
Martz said his firefighters checked inside for burning embers.
Also assisting were fire and rescue personnel from Dalmatia, Hickory Corners and Gratz.
