NORTHUMBERLAND -- Point Township police said that when they were investigating a June 23 crash at Sixteenth Street and Susquehanna Trail, one of the driver's disappeared when officers were interviewing other witnesses.
After a K-9 dog was summoned and other investigative angles did not lead them to Chad James Miller, 40, of Northumberland, officers began to visit local bars.
At the first bar they visited, officers were told that Miller had been banned from that establishment and one other nearby tavern. So police went to a third bar where they allegedly discovered Miller "sitting right in front of us at the bar."
Police searched Miller and discovered he still had the keys of one of the vehicles involved in the crash. Another patron said Miller had arrived shortly before the officers showed up.
Tests allegedly revealed that Miller's blood-alcohol concentration was three-times the legal limit.
