MIDDLEBURG — The Beaver Springs mother who hooked her young daughter on drugs will serve up to four years in state prison for endangering the welfare of a child.
At a sentencing hearing in Snyder County on Wednesday, Brandi Lynn Baumgardner, 39, expressed regret and apologized for harming her daughter, whom she admittedly helped get addicted to drugs at age 12.
She explained how she supplied her daughter with drugs to help offset withdrawal symptoms.
Her daughter, now 17, told counselors at Clear Vision in June 2011 that she began smoking marijuana with her mother when she was 12 and her drug abuse escalated, with her mother injecting her with narcotics about 200 times.
Her daughter was in the courtroom as Baumgardner received a sentence of one to four years in state prison, where she will have access to drug treatment programs. She’ll be eligible for parole after serving a minimum of one year and completing the programs.
A charge of corruption of minors was dropped against Baumgardner in exchange for her guilty plea to child endangerment.
Robert T. Hannick Jr., 22, of Beaver Springs, is also headed to prison for his involvement with Baumgardner’s daughter.
He pleaded guilty earlier this month to felony aggravated indecent assault of Baumgardner’s daughter, whom he provided with drugs in exchange for sex.
He faces four years to 10 years when he’s sentenced later this spring.
District Attorney Michael Piecuch said the penalty in each case is appropriate.
Baumgardner “set a fire by sharing her addiction with her daughter,” he said. “Robert Hannick poured gasoline on it.”
