By The Daily Item

HALIFAX — Two men were killed and four passengers injured in a head-on crash on Route 147 in Dauphin County Thursday night.

State police at Lykens said Joe Wingert, Jr., 45, of Dalmatia, was killed in the accident. His wife, Melonie Ann Wingert, 42, and three children were taken to Hershey Medical Center.

David Blair Troutman, 60, of Halifax, the other driver, was also killed in the 8:40 p.m. crash.

Lykens state trooper Randy Orlic said Troutman was driving a Suzuki Vitara south on Route 147, crossed into the north-bound lane and directly into the path of Wingert’s Ford Explorer.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Route 147 and McLellan Road, in Halifax Township.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

A nursing supervisor at Hershey Medical Center said Friday night that Mrs. Wingert was in fair condition. The names and condition of the three children in Wingert’s car were not released.

According to Orlic, alcohol was a factor in the crash. Toxicology tests on both drivers are being conducted. The investigation is ongoing.
