DANVILLE —
By hiring a full-time cook who makes meals “from scratch,” the Montour County Jail has saved about $3,000 the past three months, Warden Jerry Cutchall told the prison board Monday.
Meals cost $1.98 each when made with more prepared foods. The cost is now $1.48 per meal.
More than 9,000 meals have been served in the past three months with a $4,400 savings, he said. Considering the cook’s wages, the savings total about $3,000, he said.
“That’s what it was designed to do. It’s good news,” prison board chairman Trevor Finn said.
The warden said he hasn’t received any complaints from prisoners about the food.
The jail is seeking a part-time cook since the previous one resigned to take another job. Applications are available from the jail at Church and East Market streets.
