DANVILLE — A Mifflinburg LPN allegedly stole a credit card from a purse in a Danville area nursing home and went on a $3,000 spending spree in Snyder and Union counties.
Stacy Lynne Rivera, 40, of 207 Maple St., removed the card from the purse of Judith Trayer, of Main Township, while working in Grandview Health Homes in Mahoning Township, Montour County, according to charges filed by Mahoning Township and Main Township police.
Police said Trayer’s card was in her purse in the west wing Dec. 18. Rivera had access to it while working at the nursing home through Greater Health Care Resources, which provides flexible and temporary staff to medical facilities.
RN Supervisor Karen Carroll told police Rivera was wearing blue scrubs and a jacket when she left work that day. Police said the description matched the clothing of the person caught on camera at Giant Foods and Best Buy in Snyder County.
Trayer’s purse was in what is known as the med room. The room is secured and only charge nurses or the supervising RN on duty have keys and access.
Trayer told police she discovered her MC Federal Credit Union card missing later in the day Dec. 18. On Dec. 20, she contacted the credit union and found her account had been overdrawn.
Eight separate purchases were made totaling $3,001, police said.
They included $266 at Giant Foods, an additional $400 at Giant Foods, $964 at Best Buy, $447 at Bon-Ton and $200 at Hollister, all in Snyder County, and $620 at Weis Markets, $63 at CVS and $36 at Shell Oil, all in Mifflinburg.
Police charged Rivera with access device fraud, identity theft and theft.
She is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing before District Judge Craig Long at 10 a.m. Feb. 25.
