Show draws antiques aficionados

Heat doesn't slow crowd

SELINSGROVE — Several hundred people didn't let the blazing heat stop them from walking along the Susquehanna River on Sunday to admire unique antiques.

The Isle of Que played host to another Antiques on the Isle celebration, and with participation on the climb, Bonnie Wallace, of Sunbury, was happy to be there.

"Last year, we had about 32 vendors, and this year, we are up to 40," she said. "It's a nice quality show, and people really enjoy walking around."

Wallace, who owns Dogwood Farm Antique and Polish Pottery, Sunbury, said even though this was only her second time participating in the show, she was impressed by the turnout.

"There are a lot of people here, and it shows that people are into antiques and collectibles," she said. "Setting up for these shows is a lot of work, but they are just so worth it."

For vendors Jay and Harriet Hock, of Bloomsburg, they not only enjoy antiques, they love the surroundings.

"We love spending a Sunday afternoon down by the river," Harriet said. "This is just a really good event, and we are happy to be here."

As the temperatures continued to climb, so did the blazing hot prices some venders were offering.

"This is my first year, but I enjoy walking around and looking for good deals on jewelry," Cameron Weaver, of Selinsgrove, said. "I already got a great deal on a ring."

Weaver's mother, Chele, had her heart set on finding the perfect antique.

"I love looking for this kind of stuff, plus it is local, and I like to look at what the local people have," she said.

Some shoppers were upset to find that one man's trash is another man's treasure.

"I'm mad because I cleaned out a drawer not that long ago and I threw some stuff away, and now I see people are selling the same kind of stuff I junked," Cheryl Turner, of Selinsgrove, said. "I guess I've got to be more careful."
