Park gets charger for electric cars

ELYSBURG — Talk about a charged subject: Knoebels Amusement Resorts is watching with interest the controversy surrounding a free plug-in station for electric cars that was installed last week at the Elysburg area park.

Knoebels announced on Facebook the availability of the car charging station and included a photo. The $1,000 unit, given free to the park by Leviton, which makes the station, was installed Tuesday. Using the charger also is free to those who own such a vehicle.

The news earned the park about 750 Facebook “likes” and 100 comments as of Saturday, and most comments are positive.

But “there seems to be an argument whether or not electric cars are a good idea, or any better than cars that run on gas,” said Joe Muscato, the park’s public relations director. The station and the topic “seemed to stir up people.”

Leviton makes electrical wiring equipment for commercial, industrial and residential uses, and Knoebels as used its products for years, Muscato said.
