Valley businesses offered instruction on navigating the systems

WILLIAMSPSORT — U.S. Rep. Chris Carney, D-10, of Dimock, will be hosting a small business government contracting seminar on March 15 at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and I’m committed to doing everything I can to help them thrive,” Carney said.

Josh Drobnyk, communications director for Carney, said this event is vital for area businesses.

“The small businesses are our engines for the economy and they took the brunt of a bad economy and it is not their fault,” he said. “Our area has great businesses and we need to help them take the right steps in succeeding.”

“Business owners will learn how to register their businesses with appropriate agencies to search for bidding opportunities,” said Carney. “They will be able to see what resources and organizations are available to help through the process.”

The seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Klump Academic Center Auditorium at the college and more than 10 guest speakers will be present.

“We plan on having speakers from the Small Business Administration, the Department of Homeland Security and other organizations,” he said.

“This seminar helps business owners navigate the federal contracting process and enables them to tap into the resources available at the federal level to grow their businesses and compete on a larger scale.”

This will be the second time Carney has hosted a contracting seminar. Last summer, he hosted a similar event at Keystone College in La Plume. That event drew approximately 150 people, representing a range of different industries.
