SUNBURY — Don’t put away those mittens quite yet.
While early spring-like, mild conditions will prevail through next week, evening temperatures will be cold, at slightly above freezing, said a meteorologist.
A dry cold front from out of eastern Canada stalled in the mid-Atlantic, providing the Valley with a few days of clear, sunny weather, said Carl Erickson, with AccuWeather in State College.
“I don’t think we’ll see any snow, even at night,” Erickson said.
Temperatures at night over the next few days will hover at about 33 degrees.
Wednesday and Thursday should be dry, with daytime above-average temperatures rising into the upper 50s, but midweek, a storm from the middle of the country will begin to spread rain into western Pennsylvania. That rain will move into the Valley on Thursday through the weekend, Erickson noted.
He also said that rain spreading into the Northeast and mid-Atlantic late this week could combine with water stored in deep snow cover to cause some creek and small stream flooding at some locations.
“March is a very volatile month,” Ericson said. “Winter is trying to hang on, despite warmer weather conditions becoming the norm.”
There’s always a chance for a snow shower at this time of year, he added. “But right now, we’re in a dry, warm weather pattern.”
