LEWISBURG - A Milton resident living in Georgia was charged Friday in Union County for her alleged role in a nearly two-year-old robbery that netted about $100,000 in cash and valuables.
Leann Guisewite, 28, of Midway, Ga., was arraigned by District Judge Leo Armbruster on three counts of burglary, one count of conspiracy and four counts of theft. All are felonies except for one count of theft, filed as a misdemeanor.
Guisewite is the third person charged in the December 2010 break-in at the home of Terry Gonzales on Creek Road in White Deer Township. It is not known why Guisewite was in Georgia or with whom, if anyone, she was staying.
At the time of the burglary, Gonzales had returned home from travel and found someone had broken in through a second-floor bedroom window and stolen a safe that contained nearly $90,000 in paper stocks; collectable coins and paper money, all valued at about $7,000; and about 10 guns, valued at $3,500.
About two days after the burglary was discovered, Brant Zeiber, of Milton, and Jeffrey Adams, of Shamokin, were arrested after they had shot a gun into an occupied home on Myrtle Street in Milton.
According the affidavit filed by state police at Milton, investigators found the Myrtle Street residence was leased and occupied by Guisewite and her husband, Christopher Surber. There, police found six more shotguns, some of which had been modified, and were described as Gonzales’ property.
Also found was a prescription container belonging to Gonzales’ father and assorted coins and coin sets.
Police interviewed Guisewite and Surber, during which Guisewite said she had jokingly suggested to Zeiber and Adams that they rob Gonzales’ home.
Through their investigation, police learned that Guisewite’s late father and Terry Gonzales knew each other, and that Guisewite had knowledge that Gonzales was traveling and that there may be narcotics in the home. Police believe the four entered Gonzales’ home twice in December while he was away and made off with the various items. They later found a damaged safe and its burned contents, believed to be the missing stock certificates and documents.
Police also believe Guisewite and Surber returned to Gonzales’ home a third time and removed medication and alcoholic beverages.
