SUNBURY — A man could be released on nominal bail March 7 because he has not been brought to trial, as mandated by state law, within 180 days of his arrest.
Jamie Raudales, 18, who is charged with aggravated assault in a Memorial Day brawl in which a man was stabbed, appeared before Northumberland County Judge William Harvey Wiest on Tuesday.
Raudales was charged by Sunbury police with stabbing Quashon Blake, who pleaded guilty earlier this month to his part in the brawl at the Beck Apartment complex on South 11th Street.
Blake was sentenced to up to 23 1/2 months in the Northumberland County Prison on two misdemeanor counts of simple assault and one count of reckless endangerment.
March 7 will mark the 180-day point of Raudales’ incarceration. Raudales’ attorney, John Broda, said he would not be filing anything before that date, as he does not believe the case will go to trial until then.
Northumberland County Assistant District Attorney Ann Targonski believes this will not be an issue.
The fight left Blake injured and two men stabbed. Blake has served 193 days and is expected to spend only about five months more in the prison.
