State delays deployment of wine vending machines

HARRISBURG— Concerns over safety and talks with retailers are delaying the deployment of kiosks that will allow Pennsylvanians to buy wine without going to state-run liquor stores.

Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board spokeswoman Stacey Witalec said that negotiations with supermarkets and concerns about keeping the system safe are pushing back the planned rollout of the wine vending machines.

The board had planned to have the vending kiosks in 100 stores starting in late August. That came after two Harrisburg-area machines were deemed a success.

Witalec says there's no timetable for deployment of the kiosks and the board will instead work with supermarket chains one-by-one to get kiosks up and running.
