HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania spent at least two-thirds of the $6 million in federal and state taxpayer dollars to educate residents about a Republican-backed voter ID law that last week was thwarted by an appeals court ruling.
Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson said in his decision Tuesday he wasn’t convinced enough Pennsylvanians had procured the photo identification necessary to vote on Election Day, as mandated by the law passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature and signed by Gov. Tom Corbett in March.
