Jury selection to begin in double murder

WASHINGTON (AP) — Jury selection is scheduled to begin today for the trial of a man accused of the September 2007 beating deaths of a man and a woman in western Pennsylvania.

Thirty-year-old Eugene Nagy, of Donora, is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of 47-year-old Vince Trotta and 40-year-old Yvonne Helton. Authorities say the victims were found in Trotta's apartment, dead of blows to the head, and more than $1,900 was missing.

Prosecutors decided two weeks ago to drop plans to argue for the death penalty if Nagy is convicted of the murders. He will now face a life sentence if convicted.
