State police have charged a Middleburg woman with stealing $35,000 from a 69-year-old man who reported that his money was missing from a gun safe he retrieved from their former home after their reationship came to an unamicable ending.
Police siad Robin Vanhorn, 67, of 308 Mine Road, had obtained a protection from abuse order against Lester Calvin Shrawder, barring him from the residence they had shared for close to 20 years. Prior to leaving the residence, Shrawder took a gun safe with him, but when he opened it, he allegedly discovered that the safe did not contain $35,000 he thought had been inside.
Questioned by police, Vanhorn allegedly said she took the money out of the safe "as a bargaining chip."
Police told Vanhorn to return the money to Shrawder, but after she failed to do so, they filed charges of theft and receiving stolen property against her.
